Apex Legends is a free to play Battle Royale developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. Apex is available since February 4, 2019 on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
Apex Legends is a Battle Royale that can only be played in teams of 3, each player chooses one of 8 characters with a draft system similar to MOBA games. Each character has a passive ability, a tactical ability and an ultimate one. They are categorized into 4 types: Offense, Defense, Support and Recon. New characters will be regularly added in the game.
Like most Battle Royale, the original 60 players must jump from an aircraft onto a map. The playing area is gradually reduced to allow for constant action throughout the game. Players outside this playing area suffer damages depending on the progress of the game.
When a teammate is knocked down, it is possible to revive him (or her) to resume combat. One of the main distinctions of this Battle Royale is that teammates can also be "Respawned" after being executed. It is then necessary to recover an identification plate on the Legend loot box and bring it to a terminal.
Apex Legends reuses some of the game mechanics from Titanfall 2, also developed by Respawn Entertainment. For example, it is possible to slide on the ground to go faster on slopes and many characters have abilities to move faster. This contributes to make Apex Legends a fast paced game.
Apex Legends is a resounding success. Over 50 millions players have tried it after only one month after its release.
